Book excerpt: Depression, self-loathing, unemployment, and destroyed relationships: the effects of drug and alcohol addiction run so much deeper than the morning-after hangover. However, awareness alone will not save the struggling addict, as J.P. Willson reveals in his fearless examination of substance dependency; recovery means doing the mental and emotional work to look inside oneself and discover a way to live as a sober, fulfilled individual in an often challenging world. Through the Mind’s Eye: A Journey of Self-Discovery is a thought-provoking and honest examination of the emotional, psychological, and physical ways someone must enact their own healing. As a recovering alcoholic, Willson courageously shares his own story of addiction, as well the ups and downs he experienced along the road to recovery. Packed with astonishing insights about our culture’s relationship to alcohol, as well as the lies we tell ourselves in order to keep using, this book will change the way you view addiction. Willson has no qualms about telling the reader how difficult recovery is—and how there is no quick cure-all—but his compassionate, candid reflections help foster the knowledge and will to change.

Book excerpt: What started as a practice of reading Daily Guides for Spiritual Living, reflecting and recording their promptings and illuminations, turned into a journey of consciousness and a pilgrimage of author Roger Berg to understanding his deeper self. This is a story of one person’s life, told not from its beginning nor to some conclusion, but at a point in time when this person’s consciousness opened and became receptive to a desire to know the recurring themes and underlying values that have given meaning, purpose, and direction to his life. He analyzed and categorized his writings and discovered values and themes that have been a part of him all his life, now revealed. It was a renaissance period of self-discovery, one to be captured, learned from, and in some way used for the greater good of others. This is his story, set forth in chapters expressing his strongest values and life themes as he continues to evolve to a deeper understanding of his purpose and place in the world. He sees his story as perhaps an invitation to others to discover their own paths, to experience their own pilgrimages to a greater understanding of their place in the world, their value to others, their purpose and meaning of who they are and what they are called to do with all their revelations and self-discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 2004, the doctor told me that my tumour was an invasive ductal carcinoma that needed to be removed through a lumpectomy and radiotherapy or a mastectomy procedure. I could choose. After my mastectomy, my oncologist prescribed an aggressive chemotherapy treatment to increase the odds that this aggressive ductal carcinoma cancer would not return. His decision was founded on probability, based on statistics that indicated cancer could possibly return if I didn’t do anything differently. My oncologist told me that administering prescribed chemotherapy treatment would increase my survival rate from 50 percent to 60 percent if chemotherapy were to be administered within six weeks of my mastectomy. Chemotherapy treatment filled me with fear. I chose to learn. From my greatest fear came my greatest discovery and my greatest success. I have learned that I have the resources within me to choose the quality of my life along the way. I have learned to hunt those embedded limiting beliefs that have moulded me. I have learned that I can choose to change my beliefs, to change my attitude, to choose my state, to change the stresses in my life. I have learned that I can choose to change my mind to change the energy in my body to feel better and better every day. I choose. I have been clear of cancer for eight years. As a recently qualified life coach practitioner and an NLP practitioner, I am still learning. I practice what I learn through guiding others to realise their potential. My goal is to propel them forward, guiding them to use their imagination, to go back along their timeline and discover their defining moments. I urge them to uncover their embedded beliefs and know that they can change those beliefs anytime. Thus, they can change their bodies through changing their minds.

It is an inspirational story that depicts the revelations that a man named William Francis experienced over the course of his life. William came to realize how the LORD GOD was working in his life; finally understanding why HE led him through what he perceived to be deserts and wildernesses at various stages of his life. It demonstrates how God showed him that even when he felt abandoned and unloved, that it was indeed HE, the LORD GOD Almighty, who had brought him through those places. Along the way he makes discoveries that enhance his and his family’s lives through divine revelations about where God was leading him...his destination. William’s journey began at a very young age. His was the journey of a restless soul whose destination would be the discovering of the truth about the real JESUS. In the process, he discovers the truth about himself and his true purpose in life. William would encounter many trials, tribulations and disappointments on his journey, but he would ultimately come to a place of acceptance with himself. And eventually he would come to experience a genuine personal relationship with GOD; a relationship which produced times of happiness and joy, perpetual love and internal peace of mind, and relief of conscience even in times of crisis. In hindsight, William realized that GOD was guiding and directing his path. All the while, GOD was teaching him how to live a fulfilled life. Though some of the lessons were hard learned, it was all for his good.

In this rapidly changing world of uncertainty, one thing is for sure: a universal source of guidance and love is something that we could all benefit from. After explaining the many ways in which angel energy can be experienced and the immense value in becoming more attuned to their “light”, Chrissie takes readers through the positive qualities related to each of the seven Archangels: creating new beginnings (Gabriel); finding inspiration (Jophiel); grounding and protecting yourself (Michael); healing yourself (Raphael); learning to love yourself (Chamuel); embracing joy and transformation (Zadkiel); and feeling more at peace with yourself and the world (Uriel). Each of the chapters offers not only fascinating insight into the Archangel in hand – including key associations such as chakras and crystals – but also practical guidance on how to connect with its life-enhancing energy, whether through reflective questions, inspiring prayers and affirmations, or evocative visualizations and meditations (also available as downloads). This uplifting, experience-driven book guides readers in a grounded way throughout their journey, leaving them with a deeper sense of understanding, meaning, spirituality and purpose in their lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a timely humanistic touch to memory studies. It uses literature as a laboratory for the workings of the mind, and characters as the subjects of human experimentation and diagnostics. This book considers authors from different societies and historical periods. The book is a refreshing illumination on the functioning of human memory. It complements the work of neuroscientists who seek to rationalize the workings of the same. Drawing from various ideas on memory, this rich and authoritative volume results from wide-ranging endeavors centered on the common fact that tracking memory in literature provides an astounding vista of orientations covered in its separate chapters. The writers examined in the various chapters become mediums for unleashing memory and its reconfiguration into artistic images. The ten separate chapters investigate different aspects of memory in such memoric associations as power, music, resistance, trauma, and identity. It is therefore no surprise that the editors should consider this book as a veritable menu for everything needed for an unforgettable memory banquet.

Kriya can provide a fast path to awakening, yet its practice has been shrouded in secrecy, passed only from master to initiate for millennia. Introduced into Kriya 40 years ago, Keith Lowenstein, M.D., offers an accessible yet detailed guide to Kriya yoga. He explains the basic techniques of the practice step by step, detailing proper posture, breathwork exercises (pranayama), visualization practices, and mantra. Sharing the wisdom of his Kriya yoga teacher Ganesh Baba, the author adds a detailed understanding of anatomy, especially the importance of the spine in Kriya yoga and energy flow. The author explores Ganesh Baba’s teachings on spirit-infused science and the integration of Vedic philosophy, quantum mechanics, prana, and spiritualization illustrated in the Cycle of Synthesis. He also discusses the relationship between the exercises of Kriya yoga and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras as well as teachings from his other teachers, including Paramahansa Hariharananda.
